the Indigenous folx leading the Unlearning Conversations

meet the Unlearning Convos Team

We strive to live into being in right relation
and doing things in a Good Way as a collective.
We draw inspiration and resolve from our diverse
and multi-layered identities as Indigenous Peoples.

Aspen Basaldua

(she/they) is a native of South Texas and a descendent of the Carrizo/Comecrudo Nation.

Her goal is to bring about the change which is needed. She is a warrior and healer of her people, repairing the wounds of colonization one story at a time.

Sam Beltram

(she/her) (Ute Nation) is an Indigenous UU who loves ceremony centered living, amplifying Native voices, promoting disability awareness and inclusion, connecting peoples, organizing in collaborative groups, doing interfaith work, attending interfaith gatherings, and devotional /sacred singing.

Living an Urban Indian life has given her ample opportunities to continue doing these forms of service and be part of this transformational work. She also loves a good story and storytellers sharing around a camp fire!

Kiakiali Bordner

(she/they) is the granddaughter of Juan Crisostomo Renteria of the Tigua People of Ysleta del Sur; of Maria Teresa Baca, whose Nation has been lost to colonization; of the Monteverdes of the Yaqui Peoples; and of the Meiers of Germany.

She is the mother of four adult children; Elizabeth, Sarah, Julia, & Rile.

Kia is an active advocate, insisting on the inherent worth and dignity, & equitable treatment of all persons. Being a mother influences her decisions, focuses her vision, and inspires her advocacy in representing the needs of mothers & children. Working to promote right relations & bridging the equity disparities between Black, Indigenous, People of Colour & others are deeply personal commitments of hers.
