Indigenous Led Unlearning Conversations
What are Unlearning Conversations
Unlearning Conversations provide Indigenous lenses to activate awareness
of how non-Indigenous people relate to our cultures, knowledge, & traditions
Unlearning Convos embrace Indigenous modalities & each Conversation is unique
They are fluid and dynamic;
as each participant's input and unlearning influence & guide the course of the conversation.
They are an invitation to experience Indigenous approaches to learning and relationship.
Attending previous conversations is not required.
Unlearning Conversations are an organically educational environment,
centering Indigenous perspectives as they are applied and adapted to various topics and issues.
Unlearning Convos are between 90-120 minutes to provide space
for reaching the understanding of that conversation.
They can be virtual or in-person. We are working towards providing multi-platform ILUCs.
Our schedule is flexible to respect the lives & needs of the Unlearning Convo facilitators & guests.
In 2023 & moving into 2024, not all Indigenous Led Unlearning Conversations will be 100% virtual.
We know that the work we do through our Indigenous Led Unlearning programming
is needed even more & it is time to move from Zoom to more integrated ILUCs.
As we continue to adjust to living in a world with COVID, we are finding ways to shift
from our previous model & into in-person engagements with even more non-Indigenous communities.
Beginning in autumn 2023, we are offering various styles of Indigenous Led Unlearning Conversation workshops
for non-Indigenous organizations, educational institutions & religious congregations.
ILUC Workshops have many components, including preparatory meetings & debrief sessions.
Various components are optional, however there are a few which are mandatory.
ALL ILUC Workshops will consist of
a pre-workshop meeting;
ILUC workshops designed to fit your community;
and a debrief session afterwards.
ALL ILUC Weekend Workshops will consist of
a pre-workshop meeting;
2-hour Indigenous Led Unlearning Conversation on Saturday;
an hour long unique Indigenized cultural experience for Sunday;
a Decolonizing Discussion on Sunday afternoons;
and a debrief session afterwards.
